Reegan's Blog

Hello Everyone!2:08pm Oct 30, 2004
Allow me to introduce myself - my name is Reegan Taylor MacEwen. My parents are Keith and Vicki.

I wasn't supposed to arrive for another 3 weeks, but I wanted to go trick or treating, so I made Mommy's water break at 1:00am on October 30th. Poor Mommy and Daddy were only asleep for less than an hour, but I wanted out!

At 6:30, I was hurting Mommy too much, so she got an epidural - that was some good stuff! Mommy was fully dilated at 11:30 and she started pushing me out at 1:00. The doctor was worried that my heart rate was dropping too much during the pushes and I wasn't getting anywhere, so we decided that Mommy would have to have a C-Section.

The anesthesiologist on duty wasn't going to be available for another hour and a half, so they called in another guy on his day off. Everyone was very thankful that he agreed to come in, especially Mommy!

At 2:08pm on Saturday, October 30th, I was pulled from my Mommy's belly. I looked over at Daddy on my way out. He had a big smile on his face. I weighed 8 pounds 11 ounces! The nurses couldn't believe that I was 3 weeks early! The doctor said that if I had made it to full term, I would have been about 11 pounds! Poor Mommy! I have lots of hair. It looked black when I was born, but now appears to be light brown. Both of my parents think that I look exactly like one of Daddy's baby pictures.

Now everyone found out why my heart rate dropped during the pushes - I had a knot in my cord. I guess I did one too many somersaults when I was smaller and got tangled up.

I scored a 9 out of 10 in both Agpar tests. Grampy MacEwen is probably wondering why I didn't get 100% on my tests. My hands and feet were a little blue during the tests, probably due to the knot in my cord. They were still blue for a few hours later, but they're fine now.

Besides being tired, everyone is doing fine. I was even too tired to eat yesterday but I'm hungry today. Mommy and I are getting out of the hospital on Tuesday. I can't wait to get home to see my older brother Mako!

I hope to see you soon. In the mean time, you can see pictures of me with my parents by clicking here.
